Emmanuel Lutheran Church, a welcoming and inclusive congregation in High Point, North Carolina, is seeking a Minister of Music. This is a part-time, 20-hour-per-week position for a musician equally at home directing a choir and playing piano and/or organ for worship, who wants to help shape meaningful worship for a congregation deeply committed to hospitality, partnership, and community.
What You’ll Do
- Direct Emmanuel’s choirs and ensembles and provide accompaniment on piano and/or organ for all regular worship services.
- Ensure musical leadership is provided for special or short-notice services, such as funerals, weddings, seasonal midweek services, and Holy Week, whether led personally or through advance coverage.
- Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and Worshiping Ministry team to select hymns, anthems, preludes, postludes, and special music.
- Identify and nurture our members’ musical gifts and seek ways to share our music ministry with the wider community.
- Coordinate substitute musicians as needed, welcome guest and special musicians who enrich our worship life, and help maintain our musical instruments.
What You Bring
- Proficient piano and/or organ playing skills.
- Experience directing choirs/ensembles, preferably in a worship setting.
- Basic understanding of Lutheran theology and liturgical worship.
- A spirit of creativity and openness to new approaches in worship, balanced with respect for our liturgical tradition.
Details
- Part-time, averaging 20 hours per week
- Compensation: $30,000 – $36,000
- Funeral and wedding services compensated separately.
- 12 paid Sundays off per year, scheduled in advance.
- Funds available for continuing education and enrichment.
